Graduate Certificate in Systems Engineering
Description
The Graduate Certificate in Systems Engineering (SE) is designed to teach students how to conceptualize, analyze and develop complex products and processes. Program participants will gain new technical abilities ranging from architectural composition to detailed analytical programming. Emphasis will be on complex products such as automobiles.
System Architecting emphasizes holistic comprehension of complex problems to develop customer-focused alternatives. System Engineering and Systems Optimization lead to the successful execution of complex products. Systems modeling language leads to integration strategies. Electives will be available for students to practice SE in a field of their choosing.
Program Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the Systems Engineering Graduate Certificate, graduates will be able to:
- apply state of the art model-based system engineering techniques.
 - recognize, manage, and optimize complex system interfaces.
 - use heuristics to design novel system architectures.
 - lay the foundations for component design and system level product validation.
 - foster innovation and creativity via leadership and by example.

Certificate Requirements (15 credits)
This is a 15 credit (5 course) certificate program. Twelve credits (4 courses) are required core courses, and three credits (1 course) is elective which may be chosen from the list below.
Students must maintain a GPA above 3.0. Grades below "C" will not advance a student towards graduation.
Required Courses (12 credit hours)
- MPD 5050 Systems Architecture 3 credits
 - MPD 5300 Systems Optimization 3 credits
 - MPD 5100 Systems Engineering 3 credits
 - MENG 5925 Modeling of Complex Systems 3 credits

Elective courses (choose 1 course - 3 credit hours)
- MPD 5750 Design for X 3 credits
 - MPD 5500 Operations Management 3 credits
 - MPD 5600 Product Planning and Development 3 credits
