Title IV Credit Authorization
Federal regulations require the University of òòò½ÎÑÊÓÆµ to obtain student authorization before applying federal financial aid funds, known as Title IV funds, to certain charges. This page explains what Title IV credit authorization is, how it works, and how students can grant or revoke authorization.

What Are Title IV Funds?
Title IV funds are federal financial aid funds provided by the U.S. Department of Education. At the University of òòò½ÎÑÊÓÆµ, these may include:

Federal Pell Grant
-
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)

Federal Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loans

Federal Direct PLUS Loans

Charges That Are Automatically Covered
By federal regulation, Title IV funds are automatically applied to the following current academic year charges without student authorization:

Tuition
-
Mandatory university fees
-
On campus housing and meal plans, if applicable
No additional authorization is required for these charges.

Charges That Require Student Authorization
The University of òòò½ÎÑÊÓÆµ uses two separate Title IV Credit Authorization forms. Students may complete one, both, or neither form.
1. Authorization to Apply Title IV Funds to Non Institutional Charges
This authorization allows the University of òòò½ÎÑÊÓÆµ to apply federal Title IV financial aid funds to non institutional charges.
Examples of non institutional charges at UDM may include:

Books purchased at the UDM Bookstore

Library fines
-
Student health insurance charges

Wellness Center Fees
-
Late Registration Fees
-
Other miscellaneous charges not classified as tuition, mandatory fees, or contracted housing and meals
This authorization applies to eligible charges incurred during the current academic year.
2. Authorization to Apply Title IV Funds to Prior Year Charges (Up to $200)
This authorization allows the University of òòò½ÎÑÊÓÆµ to apply federal Title IV financial aid funds to prior year charges, limited to a maximum of $200, as permitted by federal regulations.
Prior year charges are balances from a previous award year.

Charges That Cannot Be Covered With Title IV Funds
Federal regulations prohibit the use of Title IV federal financial aid funds for certain charges, even if a student grants authorization.
At the University of òòò½ÎÑÊÓÆµ, Title IV funds cannot be applied to:

Late payment fees or finance charges
-
Penalties related to disciplinary actions

Charges assessed after a student is no longer enrolled for the term
-
Costs that are not billed to the student’s university account
These charges must be paid using other payment methods.

What Does Granting Authorization Mean?
By granting Title IV credit authorization, a student allows the University of òòò½ÎÑÊÓÆµ to apply eligible federal financial aid funds to prior year charges and or non institutional charges, as selected on the authorization form.
Authorization:

Is voluntary
-
May be granted for one or both authorization types
-
Remains in effect for the duration of the student’s enrollment at UDM unless revoked in writing
-
Applies only to the categories the student authorizes

What Happens If Authorization Is Not Granted?
If a student does not grant Title IV credit authorization:

Federal financial aid will only be applied to tuition, mandatory fees, and eligible housing and meal plan charges

The student will be responsible for paying any prior year balances or non institutional charges through other payment methods

Any excess federal financial aid may be refunded to the student rather than applied to those charges

How to Grant Title IV Credit Authorization
Students may grant authorization by completing one or both of the following forms:

How to Revoke Authorization
Students may revoke their Title IV credit authorization at any time by submitting a written request to the Scholarship and Financial Aid Office.
Revocation applies to future disbursements and does not require an explanation.
